After spending over three decades working in various roles within a production environment, Gary Simpson found himself facing redundancy. Determined to turn this setback into an opportunity, Gary made the bold decision to venture into a new career as a Mental Health First Aid trainer.
Gary's goal is to deliver a comprehensive two-day training course directly into workplaces, ensuring accessibility across diverse sectors such as production, education, offices, and healthcare. The list of industries that can benefit from this training is endless. By completing this course, participants will become certified Mental Health First Aiders, equipped with the skills to identify signs of mental health issues and guide individuals to seek professional help.
Starting a business was completely new territory for Gary. However, he reached out to Business Gateshead and has been overwhelmed with the exceptional help and support he has received. Through the Business Gateshead, Gary had the opportunity to attend complimentary courses on social media, small business setup, AI and market research, gaining invaluable skills to kickstart his new venture. Gary commented, "The advice and guidance provided by Business Gateshead has been a constant source of support, with regular emails keeping me informed about courses and information relevant to my business needs".
Gary's primary objective with his training course is to empower and educate employees, providing them with the necessary tools to spot early indicators of mental health conditions within the workplace. These trained individuals will act as valuable signposts, bridging the gap between well-being and productivity while addressing potential issues before they escalate. Investing in mental health training not only demonstrates a company's commitment to employee well-being but also fosters increased loyalty, reduced turnover, and ultimately creates a more focused and content workforce. Ultimately, a happier workforce leads to enhanced results, benefiting the bottom line of any business. In today's climate, businesses that showcase their awareness of mental health have a significant advantage, attracting individuals, communities, and prospective employees who prioritize this issue.
Gary's qualifications to offer this training come from his experience as a department manager, where he witnessed first-hand the profound impact that changes in an individual's mental health can have on their lives. This experience motivated him to embark on a journey of education and personal growth, eventually becoming a qualified therapeutic counsellor. In this role, he has guided countless individuals on their own paths to improved mental wellness, helping them navigate the challenges and transformations that come with it. Gary has also qualified as a mental health first aid training instructor, passing on his knowledge and tools to others who want to support those in need. The most rewarding aspect of his work, according to Gary, is knowing that he can genuinely make a difference in people's lives.
Gary invites others to join him in exploring the profound impact of mental health awareness and support. By investing in the well-being of employees, businesses can foster a more positive work environment and make a real difference in their community.
